Mixed-use apartment building planned on Wethersfield Diner site

Contributed A sketch of the proposed mixed-use building in Wethersfield.

A Plainville development group is looking to build a new mixed-use retail and residential building on the site of the Wethersfield Diner along the Silas Deane Highway.

The AM Group is seeking a special permit from the Wethersfield Planning and Zoning Commission to build a four-story, mixed-use building at 718 Silas Deane Highway.

The permit would allow the residential and office/retail building in the space that is currently within the Town Center zone, according to the application.

The diner, which dates back to 1952, would be demolished and the new building would have one office or retail suite along with three apartment units on the first floor, and five on each additional floor for a total of 18 apartments.

The property is owned by 718 Silas Dean (sic) Realty and principals Essam Tinawi, Belal Basatna and Jay Nahlawi. They bought the property in 2022 for $450,000, according to town land records.

The new development would have 34 parking spaces for residents and commercial tenants and customers.
