The law firm Day Pitney recently promoted two Connecticut-based lawyers to partner for 2023.
Katherine A. McAllister, who is based in the firm’s Stamford office, counsels high-net-worth individuals and families on estate planning, estate administration and trust administration. McAllister is admitted to practice in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York.
Elizabeth P. Retersdorf, based in Hartford, represents plaintiffs and defendants in complex insurance and reinsurance disputes. Retersdorf also represents and advises clients on insurance-related regulatory matters. Retersdorf is admitted to practice in Connecticut.
The two were among 11 attorneys who were promoted to the firm’s partnership across its multi-state footprint.
The firm has nearly 300 attorneys in 13 offices, in Boston, Connecticut, Florida, New Jersey, New York, Providence and Washington, DC.

Thoracic surgeon joins Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute in Bridgeport
The Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute recently added thoracic surgeon Dr. Brian Whang to its team.
Whang will serve as the medical director of the lung screening program for Hartford HealthCare and director of thoracic surgery for St. Vincent’s Medical Center.
Whang is based in Bridgeport, and the hire is expected to increase access to life-saving lung cancer surgery for Fairfield County area residents, according to an announcement.
Whang previously worked at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He was the section chief of thoracic surgery for three of Brigham and Women’s affiliated sites, as well as the acting section chief of thoracic surgery for Milford Regional Medical Center.
While at the center, Whang developed new initiatives in robotic surgery, interventional pulmonology and a formal lung cancer screening program. Whang has also served as a primary investigator for two national clinical trials related to the treatment of lung cancer.
