Fairfield University has been awarded part of a national science grant for the advancement of artificial intelligence in engineering.
The university’s School of Engineering and Computing has been awarded nearly $470,000, which is part of a larger $1.3 million multi-institutional National Science Foundation AI Grant.
The funding will help Fairfield University engineering students develop the first game-based semiconductor learning materials that incorporate AI and ChatGPT to guide high school students in developing skills and career interests in the semiconductor fields.
Fairfield University professor Xiaoli Yang said students will design and integrate an AI educator, which is a generative AI tool for education, into game-based learning, by providing students with suggestions, assistance, and additional study materials about the subject matter.
The grant is in partnership with the University of Maine and Southern Methodist University.
Fairfield University is a private institution with an enrollment of more than 5,500 full-time students. The School of Engineering & Computing includes undergraduate programs in biomedical engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering.
